How the Mumbai Police Helped Fulfill a 7-Year-Old Cancer Kid’s Biggest Dream!

Ashish’s biggest dream was to become an inspector for the Mumbai Police. And this magical hope came true when he was sworn in as an inspector of the city’s Mulund police station for a few hours on Thursday.

Ashish is only seven. And tragically he was diagnosed with brain cancer in October.
While life has given an horrific burden at such a tender age, it also gave him the biggest reason to smile last week.
Ashish’s biggest dream was to become an inspector for the Mumbai Police. And this magical hope came true when he was sworn in as an inspector of the city’s Mulund police station for a few hours on Thursday, reported the Times of India.

In collaboration with the Make A Wish foundation, famous for fulfilling the wishes of kids with life-threatening ailments, the police officials let Ashish sit on the senior inspector’s chair for sometime and even let him look through a few registers to inspect them.
The official Twitter account of the Mumbai Police shared heartwarming pictures of the boy donning the uniform and cap and cutting a cake with the biggest smile.

The caption of the image said, ‘A boy whom even cancer could not scare, definitely deserves to be police station in-charge.’

The tweet said, “Mulund Police Station was completely won over by the undaunted spirit of 7-year-old Ashish Arpit Mondal, fighting cancer! If we could, we would fulfill all his wishes beyond just being a Police inspector for a day #ProtectingSmiles @MakeAWishIndia”

Speaking to the Times of India, senior inspector of Mulund police station, Sripad Kale said, “Ashish was overjoyed with the entire experience. Even we, policemen, were glad to see him happy.”
This certainly isn’t the first time the Mumbai Police has won hearts by making a sick kid smile.

Another 7-year-old girl, Mahek, battling Ewing’s Sarcoma, a malignant bone tumour, received the best Valentine’s Day gift ever. She was sworn in as the senior inspector of Bhoiwada police station in the city before leaving for her hometown in Uttar Pradesh back in 2015.

Donning a woman inspector’s uniform, Mahek patrolled the Dadar-Parel locality before taking charge as the senior official at the police station.

The Make a Wish foundation, alongside the Tata Memorial Centre, where she was being treated and the Mumbai police, won hearts as the officials at the police station referred to the munchkin as ‘Madam’ and meticulously followed the orders she meted out.
Beautiful gestures like these, make us proud of the uniformed officials we entrust the law and protection of our city with.

We salute the Mumbai Police who never fail to amaze us by proving that men and women in uniform no matter how tough they seem, have the biggest hearts.
