Sometimes we say Yes to an opportunity to help. It changes not only the life of the person we helped, but we change too. Unexpected new directions and vistas open for us.

At our centre, we have a holistic system of education. We focus on building the character of the student, making them more responsible for their actions and speech, and getting them to cover 3 years academic curriculum in one year. Here is Hafsas story she wants you to read:

Hafsa, Age 15, Area- Korangi, says:
I had missed out on schooling and had given up on my ever learning to read or write. I knew I was over age and did not feel I was of any worth. I had no confidence within the home or outside. I was all the time self-conscious and shy. I could not speak in front of others. Then Allah gave me an opportunity to join the fast-track schooling system at Greenhouse Education Centre (YTHRE). I thought I should give it a try.

At first, I found it hard in the classrooms. I used to start crying if someone talked to me or when I was asked questions in class by the teacher. Then the teachers made me do some communication drills. My tutor and my parents worked together and counselled me. This encouraged me.

I learnt here that I am an individual responsible to myself. I have learnt that in this world I am here to live my life. I am the one to make decisions of what words I use and the actions I do. I was helped by my teachers to grow up and confront my situation and improve. After so many months I consider myself now a more able student. I feel bright, more confident and not shy in class or even in talking to boys. I ask questions and take interest in studies. Now I am working towards my goals of becoming a teacher. I believe a bright future is possible for me. I thank all those who supported me and continue to do so.

A horrifying 52 per cent of children in Sindh are outside the education system. Say YES! to this opportunity. Sponsor the education of street/unschooled children and become part of something worthwhile.

Leave your mark behind by accepting the humane thing each one of us should be ensuring. Give children their right to Education!

Kind regards,
Fareeda
