Jewel: Hands

When she was 18, pop singer Jewel lived in a van. One day, she walked into a store to shoplift a dress; but looking at her hands, she realized she controlled them. "I realized I was cheating myself." Here's a song titled 'Hands' with a beautiful refrain: 'In the end, only kindness matters."

In a beautiful response to the question "What makes you come alive?, artist and poet, Jewel shares:

"Being engaged with life. One has to develop a poet’s eye for perfect moments, moments that most people pass by. Life is seductive, yet so few allow themselves to be seduced. I love to be alone with life. I love to study simple things: the light as it filters in a window; the music of a room full of people chatting; a horizon. I am most alive when I let myself be touched by the fingers of life.

Pavi inspires a similar sentiment in this moving talk, and gently invites you to take this little kindness challenge:

"All day long, everywhere you go today, keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to do small things that are kind or helpful or joy-producing to the people whose lives intersect with yours. And do them!"

Recently I heard the story of an incredible act of kindness from a mother who was worried about her son who is on a walking pilgrimage without money completely trusting the Universe to support his journey. Was moved by love by her account of how she turned it around!

Lyrics:

If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
It didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn't ever after
We'll fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
'Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
I am never broken
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
We are never broken
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's mind
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's heart
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's eyes
We are God's hands
We are God's hands
