On a recent trip to the white sands desert of Kutch, I was touched by the mystery and magnamity of the Universe. The desert is an incredibly poetic landscape and evokes hidden parts of my being. I feel an incredible sense of surrender and awe at the majesty of the sands stretching as far as the eyes can see.

I was reminded of a beautiful Sufi parable that says “A river entering a desert cannot pass the sands by rushing through it. The river needs to completely surrender to the desert, and in that surrendering, the river waters become rain clouds that will eventually pour down at the destination.”

As we go for a full moon night walk in the vast uncharted landscape of the white sands of Rann of Kutch, I find my inner journey too is in an uncharted new territory. Feeling overwhelmed by this insight, I sink to my knees in a state of surrender and pray for guidance on how to walk in these unknown lands, both inner and outer.

A faint still voice emanates from my heart whispering the delicate poetry from one of my favorite songs named "Tu na jaane aas pass hai khuda" which is this week's Maitri Tunes:

Dhundhla jaayein jo manzilein,
Ik pal ko tu nazar jhuka,
Jhuk jaaye sar jahan wahin,
Milta hai rab ka raasta
Teri kismat tu badal de
Rakh himmat bas chal de
Tere saathi mere kadmon ke hain nishaan

(When the path ahead is unclear, just for a moment lower your gaze. Wherever you look down and lower the head (drop the ego), you will find the way “home”. Change your destiny by finding some courage and just start walking. God's footprints will be your companions. You have no idea how close God is to you.)

Dhundhla jaye jo manzilein, ek pal ko tu nazar jhuka
Jhuk jaye sar jaha wahi, milta hai rab ka rasta
Teri kismat tu badal de, rakh himmat bus chal de
Tere sathi mere kadmo ke hai nishan

Tu na jane aas pass hai khuda (*4)

(When the path ahead is unclear, just for a moment lower your gaze. Wherever you look down and lower the head (ego), you will find the way “home”. Change your destiny by finding some courage and start walking. My (God's) footprints will be your companions. You have no idea how close I am (God is) to you.)

Khud pe daal tu nazar, halato se haar kar kaha chala re
Hath ki lakir ko, modhta marodhta hai hosla re
To khud tere khwabo ke rang mein, tu apne jahan ko bhi rang de
Ke chalta hu main tere sang me, ho shaam abhi to kya

Jab hoga andhera, tab payega dar mera
Uss dar pe phir hogi teri subah

Tu na jane aas pass hai khuda (*4)

Look within, and see why you walk away defeated by your circumstances. If you have courage, even the lines of your hands (destiny) will alter. Paint your world with the colors of your dreams. Even if it is getting dark, know that I am (God is) walking beside you. When it is dark, you reach My (God's) door, and at that door, will be your dawn, You have no idea how close I am (God is) to you.)

Mit jate hai sabke nishan, bas ek woh mit ta nahi hai
Maan le jo har mushkil ko marzi meri
Ho humsafar na tera jab kahi, saaya mera rahega tab wahi
Tujhse kabhi na ek pal bhi main juda

Tu na jane aas pass hai khuda (*4)

Everyone's footsteps will disappear, except for the one who accepts all obstacles as My Will. Even when you have no companion, my presence will be with you, and I am not away from you even for a moment. You have no idea how close I am (God is) to you.)
