Gandhi’s nonviolence, truth and village-based economic model didn’t quite live up to our aspirations. Sadly, a country which dusted its hands off Gandhian values the moment it gained freedom, and propelled itself into rapid industrialisation, soon reaped a harvest of widespread communalism, pollution, marginalisation of the poor, and all-pervading corruption. No wonder discontent began to fester in the hearts of Indian youth.
