Remembering Gandhi-ji in a different way

Often, 2nd October is the only day when we remember the man who struggled for freedom of our nation, the man who walked miles so people get their rights. The man who decided to wear only a dhoti (loin-cloth) till all Indians had clothes to wear, the man who took a bullet on chest while walking on the road of non-voilence to make India free. The Father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi.

So, to celebrate his birthday a group of us youngsters decided to dedicate the day to him by following some of his principles. One of them was to " Be the Change you wish to see in the World"

While walking on road we usually criticize government authorities for dirty roads, so we all together decided a spot in our vicinity and all together cleaned up the place, planted some small plants and also painted walls to beautify the spot - since cleanliness was so dear to Gandhi Bapu. We were all completely blown away, when we saw two of our dear friends - Guru Prasad and Mayank join us from all the way across town - it must have taken them a couple of hours just to get there.

In all - it took us a few hours to do all these things but these few hours taught us so many things. It taught us the value of labour as after long hours of hard work of painting and cleaning the place was looking so wonderful when we do hard-work we definitely succeed in our job. We learnt that when you all come together you all can create something wonderful and you can bring a change the strength of unity  When you work with purest intentions without thinking who all are watching, without thinking who's praising you without thinking who all are helping you and who all not helping - just focus on the work at hand, it becomes an incredible experience. We felt like we could work for hours just to complete the work and beautify the spot

As I reflect on the day's happenings, I often remember a quote by one of our friends - "I'm not sure if there's going to be any sustainable change in that location, but there's definitely a huge change I see in us"

~ May we all remember Gandhi-ji more often in our lives :) ~
