"Love says I am everything. Wisdom says I am nothing. Between the two, my life flows"
~Nisargadatta Maharaj~
This folk song from Malwa is a full-throated cry of joy. Kabir says his heart is so drunk that he cannot speak, there is nothing left to say! ‘I'm drunk on joy, what can I say? I'm full now, what's there to weigh?’ When was the last time we had an experience that left us so full that we did not feel compelled to talk about it, flaunt it or display it anywhere? Kaluram Bamaniya belongs to a vibrant tradition of singing bhakti poets such as Kabir, Gorakhnath, Bananath and Meera in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh in India. He started learning at the early age of 9, by accompanying his father, grandfather and uncle on the manjiras. When he was 13 years old he ran away from home and went to Rajasthan, where he absorbed a wide repertoire of songs from an itinerant Mirasi singer Ram Niwas Rao for 1-2 years.
