AI + Wisdom

In Vietnam, city visitors keep arriving at a farming village with the same question: “What should we grow here?” The farmers have learned to ask a different one: “What grows here?”

WHY?
When the first telephone arrived in India, Gandhi was among its first users. Yet when asked about his greatest fear for the country, he replied: “Heartless intellectuals.” A century later, we have built the most powerful intellectual engine in human history. ChatGPT reached 100 million people in two months; AI agents now plan, decide and act on our behalf. Gandhi’s question returns with new force: where is the heart?

As machines master everything measurable, perhaps the center of gravity of human life shifts toward what the Buddha called the immeasurables — compassion, equanimity, joy, loving-kindness. Not “hard to measure.” Immeasurable. And yet our instinct is to reach for dashboards: flourishing as a KPI, compassion as a metric. We keep asking what should we grow? with extraordinary computational power, when the deeper question may be what grows here — and how do we tend the conditions for it?

When intelligence becomes abundant and nearly free, what becomes scarce? What must we refuse to automate — in our organizations, and in ourselves? Gandhi asked the wealthy to hold their riches in trusteeship; what would it mean to hold this technology in trusteeship for the whole? Can AI carry the water, so that we can keep both hands in the soil?

HOW?
These aren’t questions for a keynote. They are questions to be held — in a circle of peers, in silence, in honest conversation. Over four days, we’ll weave rich dialogue with contemplative practice: morning sits, small-group circles, nature walks, shared meals and generous unstructured time. We’ll hear from pioneers working hands-on at this intersection, including Nipun Mehta, whose ServiceSpace ecosystem has been quietly experimenting with AI in service of the immeasurables — 500+ “wisdom datasets” held as a commons rather than a commodity, and a “data-gift” movement inspired by Vinoba Bhave’s land-gift. Like every MovedByLove gathering, the retreat is entirely volunteer-run and offered as a gift: no one is paid to be here, and no one pays to attend.

WHERE & WHEN?
December 24–27, 2026, at FLAME University — a green valley campus in the hills of Lavale, outside Pune, built on the conviction that education is a journey of self-discovery rather than an accumulation of information. It is also a homecoming: in January 2024, a circle of pioneers gathered here for “AI + Heart Intelligence.” We return to a world that has changed faster than any of us predicted. Everyone is requested to be present for the full duration.

WHO?
Leaders of companies, institutions, families and communities — entrepreneurs and executives, investors and board members — alongside technologists, educators and changemakers. You don’t need to be an AI expert. You need only to sense that the deepest implications of this technology won’t be found on a product roadmap. Since the gathering is designed for intimacy, we may not be able to accommodate everyone, but we’ll keep all applicants in the loop.
