Frequently Asked Questions

While each gathering centers on its own themes, the spirit of Me, We, and Us — inner, relational, and societal transformation — is interwoven throughout. Days blend silence and story circles, head-hands-heart practice, and unhurried time together, in a many-to-many field where the wisdom in the room shapes what unfolds.

Thematic arc

Me · We · Us

Our retreats typically follow a thematic arc at the intersection of me, we, and us:

  • Me — In a world of noise, how do we deepen our inner voice?
  • We — In a hyper-individualized culture, how do we shift from transactions to relationships?
  • Us — Instead of trying to predict or control future, how do we lead with emergence?
Pedagogy

Head · Hands · Heart

Each day and theme weaves together head-hands-heart elements:

  • Head — Questions instead of answers; holding paradoxes instead of binaries
  • Hands — Engaging profound embodied practices together to evoke inner wisdom
  • Heart — Deep listening, and practicing compassion
Learning

Many-to-many

We aim to cultivate a field where many-to-many intelligence flows:

  • Retreat hosts seed reflections and facilitate the collective inquiry
  • Guest speakers offer with uncommon lived journeys
  • But authentic sharing and deep listening among the participants creates 95% of the magic

Because it is an unfolding collective experience, we ask everyone to be fully present for the whole arc — no stepping out for calls or meetings. What emerges depends on all of us being in the room, together.

In the days just before the retreat, we offer optional local immersions — mornings at the Gandhi Ashram, meals in village homes, and small acts of kindness on ordinary streets, all hosted by our volunteers. Ahmedabad is the living laboratory where these values were first forged, and it is still running. Past guests consistently name the immersions as one of the deepest parts of their journey. (A short glimpse from a past immersion.)

A beautiful and serene campus on the outskirts of Ahmedabad — the heartland of the Gandhian revolution — will be our home. Built by legendary social entrepreneur Ishwar Patel, the space blends activism, service, spirituality and simplicity in its very architecture.

You'll stay on campus in simple, lovingly kept shared rooms with one or two fellow guests; if we reach capacity, a few guests stay at nearby partner spaces, still fully within the retreat flow. Even if you're local, we ask that you stay on-site throughout, so the spirit of community can deepen with every shared moment.

You simply land at the Ahmedabad airport — and from that moment, you are our beloved guest. Volunteers gladly take care of your lodging, food, transport and local logistics for the entire time you're with us.

The whole experience is offered as a gift, covered entirely by unsolicited offerings of gratitude from alumni — expressed through multiple forms of wealth: thousands of volunteer hours, financial contributions, and quiet blessings. At the close, everyone has a chance to pay it forward in whatever way feels true. You can read more about the gift economy here.

About thirty volunteers — from across India and around the world — who cook, drive, translate, decorate, and anticipate needs you didn't know you had, purely as a labor of love. Many past guests say the volunteers were the teaching: a lived transmission of the very principles the retreat explores.

Collectively, the Moved By Love ecosystem has held thousands of circles and hundreds of retreats over 25 years, as part of the larger ServiceSpace family — all offered in the spirit of gift.

Simply respond through the link in your invitation. Once you confirm, our volunteer team will walk with you through everything else — sharing your travel details, arrival logistics, and a gentle checklist as the retreat approaches. From the moment you land in Ahmedabad, every detail is quietly handled.

For any questions along the way, please write to us using the form below rather than reaching out to individual team members — it helps our volunteers stay responsive to everyone.

Plan to fly into Ahmedabad (AMD), arriving before the retreat opens and departing after it closes — exact timings are shared once you confirm. January in Ahmedabad is gentle, with warm days and cool evenings, so comfortable, modest clothing serves well.

Most international guests require an Indian visa. If you need a supporting letter for your application, write to us using the form below and our volunteers will help.

We'd love to hear about them. The circle is intentionally small and we are typically heavily waitlisted — and yet, some of our most beloved guests and volunteers have arrived through a friend's nomination. If someone comes to heart who you feel belongs in this field, whether as a participant or in the volunteer family, share a line about them using the form below.
