I was recently reading Pope's Advice on Panhandling, and it reminded of an interaction I had today.
In Arunachala (home of Ramana Maharishi), there are a lot of old women who clean the way to Vipaksha Ashram on the hill. These women are really old and they do the job lovingly -- but then they keep asking for money.
A woman from Argentina was sharing her experience with one such old woman sitting outside the ashram. The Argentinian woman went to the old lady and gave her 20 Rupees. The old lady smiled, took the money and from her tattered sari took out a 10 Rs. note and gave it back to the Argentinian woman. That's all she needed.
And, today I was sitting and chatting up with one such old woman. She was wise, insightful and very loving.
