Self-Knowledge Is Beginning Of Wisdom- J. Krishnamurti

Krishanmurti, during one his talks found audience very confused and all over the place, said; "What I am speaking about is what your life is! Please understand I am talking about your life and what is happening in your life."

In Highway Dharma letters, Heng Chau explains this from a different dimension: "The words of the Sutra, especially the Avatamsaka, are what I like best to hear and repeat. They echo in our hearts all day and are part of this quietness. Other noises and sounds come and go, but the sounds of the Sutra stay, speaking directly to our experience and circumstances. There is a subtle, peaceful merging of these principles and our minds. It often feels as if we have another person with us -- a wise and infallible friend who understands our deepest thoughts and feelings -- the Avatamsaka Sutra. What we experience, the Sutra explains; what the Sutra explains, we experience. "

I do enjoy reading, and this was a very deep insight that if I am not able to connect this with life, it can be intellectually stimulating and even indulgence.  At the same time, it is of paramount importance to go into sacred texts to understand life -- which ultimately is to know yourself.
