I had been recently reflecting about all that's happening in the world. In some moments, I start to lose faith in humanity but as I sit with it, it makes me think about my definition of trust and faith and how that keeps evolving for me. In a recent email exchange, a question came up that I keep on reflecting about every day:
"Sadly, extremely confused and violent people are out there in the world, everywhere -- so, as an elder sister, are you going to teach your younger sister that the world is a scary place? What's the right balance of being on guard versus trusting the good? We have to figure that out. Gandhi, for example, knew that millions hated him and many had tried to assassinate him -- yet he simply refused bodyguards. Of course, we aren't Gandhi. So what does it mean to be where we are, while also aspiring to be more trusting and co-creating a kinder world? These aren't questions with copy-pastable answers -- maybe only way is to live through it, however imperfectly."
At its root, is the universe a scary place, or a friendly place?
Would love to know your thoughts on this too.
