“To explore kindness as that thread of meaning requires finding out if we can be strong and still be kind, be smart and still be kind, whether we can be profoundly kind to ourselves and at the same time strongly dedicated to kindness for those around us.” – Sharon Shalzberg
Many teachers and school principals have asked us how to encourage kindness in their schools. Our response is based on three things: live your values, share stories and hold circles.
When we commit to cultivating a certain value we unleash a ripple effect that has the power to transform our lives and the world for the better. When teachers, school principals and students consistently practice these values together, the collective efforts encourage and reinforce each other in remarkable ways.
Here’s how you can get started:
1) Sign up for a 21-Days Kindness Challenge
--Interested school principal, teachers and students sign up for a 21 day kindness challenge
--Every day for three weeks a unique idea is emailed out that serves as a prompt to engage in one small daily act of kindness.
2) Share stories: Journal every day experiences (Online & Offline)
3)Hold circles
--Principal, school coordinator hold three reflection circle with teachers thrice during the challenge.
--Teachers hold three reflection circles with students during the challenge.
--Local SSp volunteers join the circles.
