The Facts On Why Facts Alone Can’t Fight False

Just read something very insightful on Servicespace blog;

The facts on why facts alone can’t fight false beliefs.

Here's The Atlantic: "Tell him you disagree, and he turns away. Show him facts or figures, and he questions your sources. Appeal to logic, and he fails to see your point … Suppose that he is presented with evidence, unequivocal and undeniable evidence, that his belief is wrong: what will happen? The individual will frequently emerge, not only unshaken but even more convinced of the truth of his beliefs than ever before."

I had a long struggle with "leading with facts and convincing others with facts" within my organization. Irrespective my noble intention I failed and in it seems the quote mentioned in the article is my experience too. I see the fallacy of effort and intention in transforming others, and it seems so clearly that to hold space for transformation to emerge is the only tool you have in this context.
